All In Black For A Dime!

Welcome to Black History Month everybody! This February at the new and possibly improved Dojo we will be taking a closer look at some of the more compelling African-American superheroes at DC and Marvel alike. The tent poles will be all about Black Lightning, the street-level hero fashioned by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eden and other assorted artists way back in the long ago Bronze Age of Comics for DC when, God help them, they were scratching around trying to stay relevant in a comic book world filled with a Black Panther, a Black Goliath, a Falcon, and even a Hero for Hire. Tony Isabella was looking to create a black hero to fit the times and he came up with Black Lightning.

Also on tap this month will be a look at some key Marvel story lines such as the Black Panther's encounter with Klan when his rage was still simmering, the earliest days of Sam Wilson finding his way as a hero and eventually a partner to the Living Legend, and other stuff as it occurs to me and I have time to give it a close look.

And I want to read up on one of Marvel's often overlooked but exceedingly heinous villainous mobs -- The Sons of the Serpent. The snakes debuted and showed up in the pages of the Avengers and elsewhere more than a few times over the years.

Also some tasty "Blaxploitation" flicks have come across my eyes in recent months and this seems a darn fine time to write a review or two or three. There might even be an important movie that works its way onto the listings.

Don't expect just African-American superheroes though that is the prime directive. Other surprises might appear even some with a romantic flair. If I get to it get to it and if not, well all these heroes will still be black in March.

Oh and bunches of other stuff too.
