Yet Another School Daze!

Well chums, my spring break is over and I did not leave my house save to check my mail at the end of the driveway for the entire ten days. Fortunately I have laid in enough supplies for a while, though an expedition back into the frightening wilds of the Covid-19 wilderness will soon have to be undertaken. School begins again today, using techniques and approaches dubbed "N.T.I." (Non-Traditional Instruction).

How long the school year will be we don't actually know, though it has been suggested we should be ready for a hasty departure well ahead of the original deadline in late May. State testing has been cancelled and even exams within the school will likely have to be forgotten or so altered as to be all but so. As a veteran of the craft for over thirty years this has been a distinctly different way forward. I don't object to it and given the relative success of my state of Kentucky as opposed to other in proximity in keeping the spread of the virus low (for now) I can only think early action by the new governor helped immensely. And I hope it continues to do so.

This was to be my final year, steps were in place already to usher me out, but the unknowns have caused me to blink at that absolute prospect and keep my options open for an economy shaken by  months of relative inactivity. Will I teach next year? Unlikely, but perhaps. But I know I will teach today, tomorrow and for the next several weeks and at the very least we'll try to have school of some sort. All we really know about life is that things change and that  they will again. Stay safe.
